Athiest Summer Camp!

This should be fun...

There’ll be no tent for God at Camp Dawkins!

Britain’s most prominent non-believer is backing its first atheist summer camp for children.

The article is here if you want to be tempted to swear.

p.s. How about a caption contest for the picture? I'll start - "Welcome to Camp 'Brainwash me to Hell!'"

So now teaching children to think critically and skeptically is brainwashing?

For the caption why not: "We are so happy now that we can understand the world as it really is instead of being brainwashed by the fantasies of long dead sheep herders"

Hey there! You'll have to forgive my surprise...I am used to people from my church and other people that I know (mostly Christian) reading what I post.

I don't mean to insult any athiests, including you, when I speak of the things that I strongly believe. I understand why you wouldn't find the humor in my posts! Isn't it funny, though, (or maybe not) how we both believe that the other is brainwashing people?

From your point of view, I understand why you think the way you do. Christian people are probably weird and superstitious to you...Final Fantasy type stuff.

That might be because you really aren't all that familiar with what people like me believe. Many atheists (ok, I admit I'm guessing here) have had bad experiences with religion in general or were given a bad impression of it by certain people in their lives.

There are plenty of false things being taught out there in the name of God or even Christianity.

I went to your website briefly; did you come up with it? If so, I'm sure you have thought much of this through and have some strong opinions on the subject. Would you be willing to share those with me?

For instance, I would love to know what you mean by, "the world as it really is." Would you explain that? If you have the time, (and patience with me) I would love pick your brain and discuss it. You could consider it both of us sharpening our skills. :)

As far as the article goes, I guess I should have explained why I think it's bunk.

I have no problem with teaching children to think critically. In fact, I teach the people in my church to do that all the time. I am not afraid of anyone trying to prove that God doesn't exist.

If a person is really looking at the facts and thinking critically, I think it's harder to prove God doesn't exist than it is to prove that He does.

If you really want to teach a child to think critically, why not bring in people from both sides to talk on the subject? That would really make them think!

I don't know how much you know about Christianity, but telepathy and crop circles are not part of it. (Although I did like the movie Signs) Disproving those things, and debunking the ability to bend a spoon with your mind does not prove or disprove anything. And it certainly doesn't address the existence of God.

So....I am not an expert, or even really good at this, but if you would like to have a conversation about it - I'm up for it.

My personal email is dayspringpastor@gmail.com. Unless, you would like to do it in the open - we could cross-post our blogs. Whichever is fine with me.

Let me just say this:

I saw on your website what I assume is your purpose statement: Expand the understanding that Religion, as it is practiced today, is diametrically opposed to freedom.

I actually agree with that. Religion is generally not a good thing. It is a form of bondage. To me, religious people and Christians are not necessarily the same thing. Muslims are religious, as are Mormons, Hindus, Buddhists and whoever else you want to throw in there - I disagree with them all.

The reason that I am a Christian is not because I prefer the beliefs or benefits over any other religion. It's because it is the only religion that has a living Savior. Buddha is dead, Muhammad is dead, but Jesus Christ is alive!

He is the only person who could back up what he said and who he claimed to be by rising from the dead. I don't follow a religion - I follow Jesus and His words in the Bible.

Anyway, I'm sure you just got way more than you wanted from your post- but my offer stands. I hope I hear from you.

For a minute I thought Bailey and Sid had infiltrated an atheist camp!

Now THERE'S an idea for summer evangelism...
